This tutorial explains how to access the Boot Menu on a newer Phoenix-Award system to enable USB boot from a flash memory stick. The system used for this demonstration sports a MSI K8N Neo4 Finacle software demo. (MS-7125) motherboard. To date, this system has easily been able to boot from any properly setup flash drive or USB hard drive we have thrown at it.

How to access and setup the Boot Menu for USB boot:
1. The first step is to insert the bootable USB flash memory stick and reboot the computer
2. During the system post tap the F11 key (or the key your board manufacturer specifies to get into Boot Menu)Phoenix Award Bios Cmos Setup Utility Download
Note: The key used to access the Boot Menu may vary. Some commonly used Boot Menu keys are F2, F10, F11, and ESC
You should now see a Boot Menu similar to the picture below:

3. Use the arrow keys to select the Hard Disk option from the menu and press Enter to accept.
You should now see a menu similar to that shown below:
4. Your USB device should be listed. Use the arrow keys to select your USB Disk then press enter.
Note: If your USB device is not listed, you may need to set a boot flag to make the partition active.
5. If you have properly formatted, activated the partition and installed Linux to your USB device, you should be presented with a boot screen as pictured below:Phoenix Awardbios Cmos Setup Utility Download
6. You can now proceed to boot Linux from the stick.
